BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER – JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

Job Title: Business Development Manager (BDM – Sales led)

Reports To: Chief Technical Officer (CTO)

Working Hours: 40 hours per week

Location: Central London

Salary: £50 – £60k plus commission

We operate an associate model, only engaging with first class, known and trusted associates, with at least 10 years government delivery experience each.

We have over 100 permanent staff, and our wider resource pool includes over 800 subject matter experts from our sub-contractors and long-term associates, who collectively cover all of the skills and knowledge areas required.

The associates that we work with all share our values and commitment to delivering a high-quality service. Many have worked with us for a number of years across multiple projects and complement our permanent team with additional niche subject matter expertise or delivery experience.

 

Purpose:

The Business Development Manager will work closely with the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) to lead the delivery and closure of a robust sales pipeline. The intention is to expand the business over the next 2-3 years. Activities will include establishing a comprehensive sales strategy, generation of new commercial leads and closing new sales opportunities. Finally, the role will maximise customer retention, promote brand values and create shareholder value by enabling the business to grow profitably.

 

Key Responsibilities and Measures: Core Sales Activities:

  • To provide the leadership and ownership in developing and implementing sales initiatives that will attract new customers and support the retention and growth of current customers in the business as a whole
  • To develop and implement capture plans and key account plans for new customers that will promote profitable business growth
  • Create client development plans and ensure sustained levels of repeat income
  • Introduce client partners/team members into the client accounts to ensure multi stakeholder relationships
  • Contribute to service development and innovation
  • To effectively use the company Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and assist in its on-going development to provide an efficient and effective platform •
  • To establish and deliver a robust sales funnel of opportunities in line with business plans and strategy Lead Generation Activities
  • To effectively use modern Digital, Social sales, Telesales methods and tools (as appropriate) to stimulate high volumes of good quality lead generation
  • To input in to the development of communications collateral such as brochures, websites, digital and social media using an integrated approach Sales Support
  • To work with operational managers and other business partners as appropriate – always promoting a “joined-up” approach across the business
  • To develop modern sales toolkits that will continuously improve the business development function
  • Attendance at events, exhibitions and sales meetings through to customer presentations and launch events
  • To undertake a range of mini-projects for the business as jointly agreed • To produce reports, presentations and lead/attend business meetings as directed General Accountabilities
  • Understand and monitor competitor offerings
  • Accurate sales forecasting, achieving sales pipeline and conversion targets
  • Speed of purchase orders and invoicing and signed contracts for every project
  • Ensure a healthy client and service mix
  • Positive client feedback
  • The post holder is responsible for maintaining a safe working environment and ensure as reasonably practicable that safe working practices are adopted by employees within this work environment

 

Essential Requirements, Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

Education and Training

  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent, in subjects related to sales, marketing or business management
  • High quality IT skills with a high-level working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products, cloudbased CRM, digital marketing and social selling applications, including the use of mobile devices
  • Ability to produce high quality proposal documents, spreadsheets and presentations from first principles • A high level of experience with social and network selling methods using B2B applications such as LinkedIn Sales Navigator and Showpad
  • Experience of establishing and using a cloud-based sales CRM and effective database

 

Specific job skills and experience required

  • Several years of experience working in a dynamic sales environment with a high field sales or key account content
  • A proven track record of achieving sales targets using a structures sales approach • Experienced in lead generation activities using telesales and digital methods
  • Experienced in using a modern CRM system for pipeline and key account management
  • Very good experience and knowledge of working in B2C and B2B environments
  • Experience of working with a large multi-million business, sales structures, processes and systems
